While the most famous way to celebrate New Year’s Eve in New York City is by witnessing the ball drop in Times Square with the ONE MILLION other people there (literally), there are many other ways to celebrate the New Year in NYC from parties on NYE, special events, and fun things happening on New Years Day! My wife and I cannot thank the the staff enough. As I managed to work out, I believe my funny turn came about after having been out all day in Central Park and other parts of New York without drinking water ♂️ - my symptoms appeared consistent with heat exhaustion. Moreover, they refused to let me pay the bill. They helped me through to an air conditioned part of the hotel and got me some water, where I started to feel better. My wife called for help and Desara and one of the security staff, Mr Muirhead were quick to assist. Fortunately a table was there to hold on to. I asked the lovely member of staff, Desara where the bathroom was - she pointed me in the direction - I started slowly making my way there when I felt faint and fell forward. During the course of our meal, I started to feel unwell. The reason however, for my 5 star review is because of how attentive and friendly the staff were when I unexpectedly had a funny turn when there. It had great views, the food was delicious and the drinks, although on the slightly pricy side, were very nice. During our stay, we went to the Magic Hour rooftop bar. My wife and I have just returned from our first trip to NYC. and if I was already drunk enough to enjoy it! Probably wouldn't return if I went back to NYC unless I was desperate to hang out at a rooftop bar and couldn't get in anywhere else. DJ played some good music - think chart RnB/dance. This being said, I did think the place was a little dirty - lots of leftover food plates all over tables that wasn't collected during our visit, but then again it was busy so maybe that was why. The overall decor and aesthetic is very Instagrammable, pink neon everywhere with a floral carousel that doubles up as a table which is pretty cool - though I imagine you'd have to make a reservation well in advance to land that table. After finally managing to get served at the bar we paid around 40 dollars for a vodka & coke and a bottled beer - this came as a bit of a surprise! Views of the Empire State Building are kind of obstructed by plastic canopies, which seems a little odd to me as that's surely their biggest selling point. It's a much smaller space than I expected so it felt cramped and like you were constantly climbing over people to get anywhere. Super busy, a crowd 6 people deep around the bar and no available tables. When we walked out onto the roof it was overwhelming to say the least. The door staff basically ignored us at first which was a little awkward - you're then led up to the bar past a couple of different host checkpoints, none of which were friendly or at all welcoming. Myself and my boyfriend visited on Thursday night at around 10.30. The reality however was a little disappointing. Having seen this place all over Instagram prior to my visit to New York, I was excited to visit.
